Using EDITED in chat

Connect your AI assistant to EDITED's market data, and ask it about retailers, brands, pricing, assortment and trends in plain language. No code, no keys to manage — you sign in once, and your assistant does the rest.

First, you'll need your EDITED login. You sign in with the same EDITED login you use for our other apps — it just needs MCP access enabled. Already use EDITED but not sure it's switched on? Your account manager or support@edited.com can sort it. Not an EDITED customer yet? Book a demo to get started.

How it works

With most assistants you add EDITED as a connector and authorize it with a quick sign-in; from then on it pulls live EDITED data whenever your question needs it. Microsoft Copilot is set up a little differently — someone sets EDITED up once for your team, and then you just use it. Either way, once you're connected you just ask.

Curious how that works, or what reaches EDITED? See How it works, and your data.

Connect your assistant

EDITED connects to any assistant that supports custom MCP connectors. Claude.ai and ChatGPT are the quickest — a one-time sign-in, with the steps below. Microsoft Copilot works too, but is set up once by an admin for your whole team, so it has its own page rather than steps here.

Claude.ai

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose to add a custom connector (where this sits can vary by plan and version).

  2. Enter EDITED's address for your region:

    • UK/EU: https://mcp.edited.com/mcp/v1
    • US: https://mcp-us.edited.com/mcp/v1

Not sure which? It matches your main EDITED login — my.edited.com/ask.edited.com is UK/EU, my-us.edited.com/ask-us.edited.com is US.

  3. Sign in to EDITED when prompted, to authorize the connection.

  4. You'll see EDITED listed as connected — now just ask.

ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings and find where custom connectors live — it may be under Connectors or Plugins, and the exact spot varies by plan and interface version. If you can't find it, check with your administrator.

  2. Choose to add a custom MCP server.

  3. Enter EDITED's address for your region:

    • UK/EU: https://mcp.edited.com/mcp/v1
    • US: https://mcp-us.edited.com/mcp/v1

Not sure which? It matches your main EDITED login — my.edited.com/ask.edited.com is UK/EU, my-us.edited.com/ask-us.edited.com is US.

  4. Give it a name if asked, then sign in to EDITED to authorize.

  5. Check EDITED shows as connected — now just ask.

Microsoft Copilot

If your organization has published an EDITED agent in Copilot, using it is simple: pick the EDITED agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot or Teams, sign in to EDITED once, and ask.

No agent yet? Setting one up is a one-time job for a maker or admin — see Set up EDITED in Microsoft Copilot.

Then just ask

Once connected, you don't need to read documentation — ask your assistant. It knows what data is available and how to fetch it. For example:

  • Launches — "What did my top three competitors launch in women's dresses last week, and at what price?"
  • Discounting — "Where has my category been discounted hardest in the last 30 days, by competitor and by subcategory, and how do we compare?"
  • Opening price — "How does my opening price point in women's dresses compare with the UK market and my main competitors?"
  • Sell-through — "Which makeup subcategories are selling out fastest in the UK, and are we faster or slower than the market?"
  • Color — "Within nail color, which shades are gaining share over the last four weeks?"
  • Shade range — "For my top five makeup brands, how many foundation shades do I carry compared with other UK retailers that stock them?"

These are a starting point — tell your assistant what you're trying to find out and work with it to shape the question. Not sure what's possible? Ask it what EDITED can help with. And see Working with AI answers for getting the most out of what comes back.

Want to go deeper?

Most people won't need this — your assistant can explain as you go. But if you'd like to understand the data itself:
